Helloooo summer!

It's hot.

It's really hot!

I haven't seen the electric bill yet, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be monstrous.

And I love it! The long days, the warm nights. My favorite time of day is in the evenings, to sit out on the deck, talking with friends and enjoy the warm summer nights. Sipping lemonade, listening to the sounds of the neighborhood, and the occasional bonfire. Love it!

It's been awhile since my last blog. I took my RN boards on June 1st, and got my RN license for my birthday! Yay!! Now that I am officially an RN, I have been applying for jobs at the hospital. Figure it'll take me like, 2 days to get a job, right? WRONG! It's been nearly two months, and what I have realized is this: Be grateful for the job you have, recognize that any experience is better than none, and enjoy what you are learning, because knowledge is key. I had just gotten to the point where I was going to back off for a bit, enjoy the nursing home for a while, and catch up on my finance stuff, when wouldn't you guess... I got a call for an interview at ORMC! For a full time sot on the surgical floor. Yay!! That's next week, so... keep your fingers crossed for me!

Mav finishes the first part of his police academy in a couple weeks. He's learning about corrections and jails and stuff right now, and loving it. He applied for a position with highway patrol. That is an extensive process! They actually came to our house to interview me! He had another interview with Weber county this last week. He's excited and looking forward to leaving Smiths when the time comes. I keep telling him to quit now and we'll figure it out. It would be so nice to actually see him! But, he's stubborn and won't do that.

We got a bunny here not long ago. That thing is a little devil! He terrorizes the house, chews on everything from shoes, to paper to cords. Poops in the corner of the landing, hides behind the furnace... But he makes me laugh when he charges down the hall hell bent on escaping whatever scary thing lives down there when the lights are off. :-)
We call him Jersey Cow, because he looks like one.
<----This is a pic of him from when we first got him. He's grown a ton since then!

Nursing week!

It's Monday! Not a day typically celebrated, but for me, it means a day off! After a crazy string of 4 in a row, I am so pleased to see today roll around! LOL And what a crazy work week it was... I had a patient on hospice that ended up bringing me some insight. The family was having a rough time, understandably, and made the following comment... "I understand that you have other patients to care for, but she is the only one that matters to me." It's easy to not see things from others points of view. It's easy to get overwhelmed with all of the work that stands before you. And it is far too easy to avoid situations that make you uncomfortable rather than to meet them head on. I tried a new approach over the weekend. My patients stayed comfortable, their families relaxed, and the day seemed to flow. Not that I didn't have to hurdle some major obstacles, like a family who decided Saturday morning to discharge and didn't bother telling me till nearly too late, but still things got done, and I felt like I was making headway.
I question at times why I went into nursing, and the answer is this: At some point in my life, I will need a nurse. I will need someone to listen to me, to care for me, to ensure my safety, and to comfort my family when I am unable. And yes, there are other things that nurses do, but the good ones make it look easy, and still provide basic comforts and smile while they do it. And that is why I became a nurse. To make a difference and care about those entrusted to me.

Being a NURSE means you carry immense responsibility and very little authority. You step into people's lives and make a difference. Some bless you, others curse you. You see people at their worst and best. You see life begin and end. You see people's capacity for love, courage and endurance. ♥ IT'S NURSES APPRECIATION WEEK. REPOST IF YOU ARE A NURSE, LOVE A NURSE, AND/OR APPRECIATE A NURSE!!
